NYERI, Kenya April 24 – The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC), led by Senior Deputy Data Commissioner Festus Musyoki, hosted the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Communication, Information, and Innovation during their inspection visit in Nyeri County.
This visit was part of the MPs’ budget implementation monitoring efforts, focusing on projects and offices under ODPC in both Nyeri and Isiolo counties.
During the inspection, the Senior Deputy Data Commissioner briefed the MPs on the ODPC’s progress in enhancing data protection awareness and ongoing initiatives to support compliance across public and private institutions.
The engagement highlighted key aspects of the ODPC’s mandate, including awareness creation, institutional compliance, and the protection of personal data.
Following the visit, the ODPC reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Parliament, public institutions, and stakeholders to promote data protection compliance and the responsible use of personal data. This underscores the shared responsibility of strengthening Kenya’s data protection ecosystem and fostering a trusted, rights-respecting digital environment for all Kenyans.
Currently, ODPC has regional offices in Eldoret, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, Mombasa, Machakos, and Nairobi. It also has presence in Huduma Centres in Meru, Isiolo, Machakos, Kitale, Kakamega, Kisii, Eldoret, Nyeri and Garissa.
The expansion of data protection services reflects the ODPC’s commitment to regulating the processing of personal data and safeguarding privacy rights. These offices serve as central hubs for data protection services in their respective regions, offering guidance and support to organizations and individuals in understanding and complying with data protection regulations
