Nairobi, Kenya, February 27, 2024 – The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, led by the Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait, MBS, hosted a partners’ breakfast meeting ahead of the upcoming Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Conference, scheduled to take place from May 7th to 9th, 2024 in Nairobi.

During the event, the Data Commissioner emphasized that hosting the AGM & Conference in Kenya presents a unique opportunity to showcase Kenya’s unwavering dedication to data protection and its position as a Silicon Savannah.

“This gathering serves as a unique platform to not only showcase Kenya’s dedication to safeguarding data but also to foster collaboration among African Data Protection Authorities, promote regional cooperation, and position Nairobi as a central hub for pivotal discussions on data governance and digital advancement,” she said.

“Participants can look forward to delving into the nuances of data protection trends across various African countries, gaining insights into best practices, and fostering partnerships to advance data protection initiatives on the continent.”

The ODPC has planned a myriad of activities including targeted trainings, webinars, side plenary sessions, a two-day Hackathon, exhibitions, keynote addresses, and networking sessions.

Some of the key topics up for discussion include perspectives on Africa’s digital transformation journey, evolving data governance frameworks, cross-border data transfer regulations, and emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, and IoT. The NADPA AGM & Conference will convene stakeholders from various sectors including Academia, Financial Services, Healthcare, Civil Society, Government, and Technology Services.

Established in Ouagadougou in September 2016, NADPA serves as a unifying platform for African privacy and data protection authorities from different regions. The organization aims to facilitate exchanges and cooperation among its members while amplifying Africa’s voice in global data protection discussions.
