Data Commissioner Graces DPO Humanitarian Action Certification Programme in Mombasa

MOMBASA, Kenya November 3rdThe Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait delivered the opening remarks at the Data Protection Officer (DPO) Humanitarian Action Certification Course where he emphasized the importance of embedding data protection principles in humanitarian operations, ensuring that the collection and use of personal data respects privacy, dignity, and trust even in crisis contexts.

“Even in times of crisis, the rights to privacy, dignity, and autonomy must be upheld. Protecting personal data is not optional…it is essential to preserving trust and humanity,”, Data Commissioner, speaking during the session on the rights of data subjects in humanitarian action.

This initiative, jointly organized by the European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity (ECPC), Maastricht University, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), brings together humanitarian officers from across Africa to build capacity on responsible data management and ethical use of information.
