ODPC Joins delegates as Kenya Hosts Inaugural AI and Software Summit

ELDORET, Kenya, November 12th – The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner(ODPC) joined various stakeholders at the inaugural Kenya AI and Software Summit, hosted by the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Digital Economy.

Under the theme “Software as a Catalyst for Inclusive Growth, Jobs, and Competitiveness,” Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait delivered remarks during a high-level session. In her address, she underscored the importance of leveraging software and artificial intelligence to drive inclusive growth and enhance competitiveness in the digital economy.

 In her address, she underscored the power of transparency as a cornerstone of responsible innovation, noting that trust is the engine that enables digital transformation to thrive.

She emphasized that as Kenya accelerates its software and AI adoption, transparency in how data is collected, processed and safeguarded must remain central to cultivating an ecosystem that empowers citizens, stimulates job creation, and boosts national competitiveness.

She further highlighted the critical role of robust governance frameworks, ethical AI, and accountability in strengthening digital confidence and positioning Kenya as a leader in the global technology landscape.

The session brought together innovators, policymakers, industry leaders and development partners—collectively reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to inclusive, transparent and sustainable digital growth.

At the Summit, the Office hosted Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cabinet Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy William Kabogo at our booth. The booth attracted various tech stakeholders eager to learn more about data protection.

Their visit underscored the Government’s strong commitment to data protection, digital trust, and responsible innovation as Kenya accelerates its digital transformation agenda.

The leaders commended ODPC for its continued efforts in supporting emerging technologies through awareness, compliance, and citizen empowerment on data privacy rights.
