ODPC Data Protection Awards
INTRODUCTION
To advance the strategic pillar of awareness creation, the ODPC has introduced the ODPC Data Protection Awards. This initiative serves as a cornerstone for promoting best practices in data protection by publicly recognizing organizations that demonstrate compliance and innovation in line with the Data Protection Act. The awards seek to amplify the importance of safeguarding personal data and foster a culture of data protection across all sectors. These efforts aim to facilitate the realization of a robust Kenyan digital economy.
In line with Section 8 (g) of the Act, that mandates the Office to take such measures necessary to create awareness on the provisions of the Data Protection Act, 2019 and to further advance the strategic pillar of awareness creation in our strategic plan, the ODPC has introduced the ODPC Data Protection Awards. This initiative serves as a cornerstone for promoting best practices in data protection by publicly recognizing organizations that demonstrate efforts towards compliance and innovation in line with the Data Protection Act. The awards seek to amplify the importance of safeguarding personal data and foster a culture of data protection across all sectors.
The awards will focus on four thematic areas:
1. Internal Awareness Initiatives Initiatives that significantly enhance the organizational internal understanding of data protection.
2. Compliance Demonstrated adherence to data protection laws and proactive measures to maintain compliance by data handlers.
3. Complaints Handling Effective mechanisms for addressing data protection complaints and resolving issues promptly and fairly by data handler.
4. Innovation Creative and impactful solutions that improve data protection practices by data handlers.
Eligibility Criteria
Only registered data controllers and processors with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner are eligible to participate.
You are eligible to submit an application in more than one category.
The applications run from 5th December 2025 to 14th January 2026.
